Windhoek, 10 August 2026 – TransNamib and Mediterranean Shipping Company
(MSC), a global shipping company and TransNamib client, have taken an important step
towards expanding containerised cargo movement by rail, following a soft launch held on
5 August 2026 at TransNamib’s WINCON Depot in Windhoek.
The collaboration reflects MSC’s commitment to moving and growing container cargo on
rail with TransNamib, with the immediate focus on utilising the WINCON facility to facilitate
container cargo movements between Windhoek and Walvis Bay.
The initiative is an important step towards strengthening intermodal freight solutions and
increasing the movement of containerised cargo by rail. Through the collaboration,
TransNamib and MSC will focus on the efficient movement of container cargo by rail,
while evaluating opportunities to increase volumes and explore additional route options
in the future. The initiative is also aligned with the recent expansion of the Namport
Container Terminal, which presents further opportunities for the growth of containerised
cargo movement.
“This collaboration with MSC is an important step in strengthening the role of rail in
Namibia’s intermodal freight landscape. By working closely with our clients, we are
creating opportunities to grow container volumes on rail, improve connectivity between

solutions to the market,” said Kendall Swartz, Executive: Commercial & Marketing at
TransNamib.
The soft launch provided an opportunity for both organisations to mark the
commencement of the collaboration and reaffirm their commitment to exploring
opportunities that support the growth of containerised freight on rail. An official launch will
be announced in due course.
TransNamib remains committed to strengthening its focus on providing reliable and
efficient rail freight solutions by working closely with clients and industry partners to
