New Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Johny Smith
The TransNamib Board of Directors is pleased to officially announce that we have appointed Mr. Johny Smith as the new Chief Executive Officer. His first day of office was Thursday, 1st February 2018. Smith holds a B Comm degree and a Masters in Business Administration. Thus, well suited for the position with more than 25 years commercial experience in the fields of telecommunications, land and sea transportation. His relevant experience covers the aspects of Business Strategy, Organisational Development, Business Development, Marketing and Project Management. He has previously served in various positions at TransNamib, Namport and Telecom Namibia.
“After a thorough and rigorous search process we are delighted that Johny Smith has agreed to join TransNamib as its CEO. He has excellent business experience and the drive to help us take TransNamib to the next level of growth and development. We look forward to working with him and the Executive Team in transforming the Company and building a railway network fit for the future”, said Chairman of the Board, Mr. Paul Smit.
In terms of leadership roles, he serves as the Chairperson for the Alliance for Corridor Management in Africa, Chairperson of Telecom Namibia and Commissioner of the National Planning Commission.
Prior to joining TransNamib, Smith was the Chief Executive Officer of the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, which constitutes a Public Private Partnership (PPP) of transport and logistics stakeholders.
