ENGINEERING
The Engineering Department is mainly responsible for technical service functions at TransNamib.
The Department is responsible for the safe operation of the passenger and cargo trains. Other responsibilities, amongst others, include: the maintenance of the machinery such as the main engines, auxiliary engines, electrical installations, cranes, winches, cargo pumps and ensuring compliance of the said machinery to the required certification standards.
The Engineering Department will carry out these functions:
- Civil infrastructure, which is responsible for the maintenance of the railway, buildings and bridges;
- Mechanical Engineering, responsible for the repair and maintenance of locomotives, vehicles, carriages and wagons;
- Telecom and electrical infrastructure that is concerned with the installation, repair and maintenance of telecom, radio, electronic and electrical systems and equipment; and
- Research and development of company infrastructure and other equipment.
