The Operations Business Unit typical attends to the administrative, logistical, and other duties necessary for TransNamib’s day-to-day functioning. The department ensures that the core business area are run and managed successfully to achieve the company’s objectives and deliver on its promises. The key functions of the Operations Department involve:
  • Service Delivery, which involves freight handling;
  • Road Operations, which is responsible for freight transport by road;
  • Train Operations, which is responsible for bulk transport by rail; and
  • Passenger services, which strives to provide cost-effective and safe rail transport services for passenger.

The Operations unit together with the technical support of the Engineering Business Unit constitutes the core business functions of TransNamib. It is essential that the capacity, competence and focus of all the support service business units should be aligned towards ensuring that this business unit leads TransNamib to be the benchmark in Africa going forward. Service delivery mechanisms, passenger services, cargo controlling, freight services, terminal operations, station management and road- and train operations are all core functions within the Operations Business Unit. Service delivery in particular should be strengthened in this business unit.

The optimal utilization of passenger and freight revenue generating resources is the key responsibility of the Operations Department in TransNamib. The department aims to provide satisfactoryservicestoitscustomersbyprovidingqualityproductsatthelowestpossiblecost in such away that it ensures the highest return to the Company.
